07/11/2023

After connecting the lab scanner to the PC, a pop-up window may appear with the message "ScanIt Dental communication error. Error connecting to ScanIt Dental".

Overview of Possible Solutions

The issue can most commonly occur when one of the system components is obsolete. Check that the required system components are up to date.

The error can also occur if the Scan button is pressed before the scanner is ready. Wait until the scanner is ready before starting the scan.

Solution 1: Check System Components

Check that the following system components are installed and up to date:

Step 1: Check for the latest Windows updates. Open the Windows "Start" menu, select "Settings", and then select "Windows Update". Check the current status of the Windows updates.

Step 2: Check the GPU driver. Right-click the Windows "Start" menu and select "Device Manager". Open "Display Adapters", find the graphics card, right-click it, and select "Properties". Open the "Driver" tab and compare the driver information with the current information available from the graphics card provider. Update the driver if necessary.

Step 3: Check that Visual Studio C++ Redistributable 2015 or later is installed. Open the Windows "Start" menu, select "Settings", and then select "Apps" and "Apps and Features". Find this component and update it if necessary.

Step 4: Check the SlimDX installation. Open the Windows "Start" menu, select "Settings", and then select "Apps" and "Apps and Features". Find this component and update it if necessary.

Step 5: Check that .NET Framework 4.6.1 or later is installed. Open the console and run "regedit".

Step 6: In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP. Open the version list and check the exact version number.

Solution 2: Make Sure the Scanner Is Ready

Sometimes the error occurs when scanning is started immediately after opening Dental Manager. Wait until the ScanIt Dental icon appears before starting the scan.

Outcome

After following the steps above, the "ScanIt Dental communication error" should no longer appear.
