Common Calibration Errors

During lab scanner calibration, various errors may occur. Examples include:

  1. "Calibration failed. Global positioning not possible. The dot plate is obscured to the cameras. Check saved images"
  2. "Calibration failed. Global Positioning not unique. Check saved images"
  3. “Stream command failure WaitForImageSet timed out”

  1. The error message "Exception: WaitForAxesStop timeout for [axis]" appears during scanning or calibration and mentions one of the scanner's axes, for example:

  1. The error message "Stream Command failure. WaitForImageSet returned time out" appears during scanning or calibration.

Affected scanner models and software versions: Any model, any version.

Possible causes:

  • Wrong axis position
  • Axis malfunction
  • Faulty calibration object

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Turn the scanner off and on.

Step 2: Check that the USB connection meets the requirements detailed in the article "USB connection requirements for 3Shape lab scanners".

Step 3: Try another USB port.

Step 4: Replace the scanner's USB cable. For an F8 scanner, replace the Ethernet cable.

Step 5: Connect the scanner to a different PC and check whether the issue is reproduced there.

Step 6: Make sure the drivers are installed correctly and updated according to the article "How to find 3Shape lab scanner in Device Manager and update scanner's drivers".

Step 7: Review the recommendations in the article "What to consider when calibrating Lab Scanners". Make sure all recommendations are being followed, including the correct positioning of the calibration object.

Step 8: Make sure the plastic cover has been removed from the calibration object.

Step 9: Check that the calibration object (dot plate) is in good condition. Make sure there are no smudges, visible damage such as scratches, or stains and dirt. If possible, try using a different calibration object.
