Frequently Asked Questions: Unite 24.1

Frequently Asked Questions: Unite 24.1

15/10/2025

Unite 24.1, also known as Unite 3rd gen, has been globally available since 26th of August, 2025.

What is cloud in 3Shape Unite?

With Unite 24.1 all your TRIOS and patient data, and app licenses will be securely stored in the cloud. You can access them from anywhere, on any device (MOVE+, Cart, PC or laptop) with your 3Shape Account. Physical dongles and client server installations are no longer needed.

Any data handling, state, change, and device's cloud connection is visualized in the software.

What data is uploaded to cloud?

All your TRIOS and patient data, and licenses of your 3Shape Account Company is uploaded to cloud. This includes scans, patients, cases, media files, settings, etc. Scan streams remain to be saved locally.

How much storage do I have available?

The amount of cloud storage depends on your TRIOS Care plan. TRIOS Care customers have access to 10 TB cloud storage, whereas TRIOS Only customers have access to 10 GB of free cloud storage. Once the limit is reached, oldest data is offloaded to local storage to make space for new data in the cloud.

How much does cloud storage cost?

There is no extra cost for cloud storage, it is included in your TRIOS Care plan. You can read more about it here

What happens during 24.1 update?

During the update we will:

  1. Ask you to consent to using cloud storage or to remain on local storage
  2. Automatically back up your data to a local folder or any other directory specified by you
  3. Automatically move your Unite app licenses from your dongle to cloud, so make sure your dongle is connected
  4. Upload your TRIOS & patient data to cloud incl. patients, cases, media files, settings, etc., if you consent to using cloud storage

After you finish the update, you may still see that your data is being synced to cloud. Nevertheless, you can still use Unite uninterruptedly during this time.

How long does is take to update to 24.1?

The update duration depends on your technical setup and internet connection.

You can expect the download, installation, backup, and license and data transfer to take between 60-90 min. Additionally, case synchronization with cloud depends on the size of your database. However, you can use Unite uninterruptedly during this time.

We recommend initiating the update outside of working hours.

Is it possible to postpone license and data transfer to cloud?

No, once you start 24.1 update it is not possible to postpone or skip license and data transfer. Unite 24.1 will take around 60-90 min to download and install.

Your data will be uploaded to cloud only if you have consented to using cloud storage and keep cloud storage enabled in the settings. However, moving licenses to cloud is a mandatory step.

Will all my licenses be moved from the dongle to cloud?

Only licenses compatible with Unite will move to cloud. Other 3Shape software licenses such as Dental System and Ortho System will remain on the dongle.

Where can I see my licenses?

You can find your licenses included in your active subscriptions on the License page in Unite Store. If you buy new 3Shape licenses after the initial update, you can activate them in the same page.

Only licenses that have moved to cloud will be visible in Unite Store. Licenses that remain on the dongle will not be displayed there.

Can I continue to store my data locally?

Yes, you can configure any PC, laptop, MOVE+ or Cart to act as local storage hub. Make sure you have sufficient disk space, before setting up a local storage device.

Are there any system requirements to start using cloud in Unite?

You need a stable internet connection to fully utilize the benefits of cloud storage and have uninterrupted access to your licenses in the cloud.

In case you lose internet connection or intentionally go offline, your data will be stored locally and synced to cloud as soon as you connect to internet again. Unite will provide you with guidance in case of any data conflicts.

You can see network connection requirements here

What should I do with my dongle after updating to 24.1?

You can safely remove the dongle from your device as Unite will not need it anymore. If you would like to dispose of the dongle, please do it according to standard operating procedures and local regulations for disposal of general and electronic waste in your country.

If Unite notifies you that some licenses remain on your dongle, keep the dongle plugged in as you still need it to use other 3Shape software.

What if I am setting up my first 3Shape system?

If you are a new customer and just starting with Unite 24.1 or newer version, you will need to create 3Shape Account first. Follow the steps on-screen and get your licenses in the cloud either by using the subscription activation code or moving the licenses from a dongle.

Afterwards 3Shape apps will be automatically installed and you can start using Unite. Every new patient, case or  scan you create, will be immediately saved in the could if you consent to it during the initial Unite setup.

How should I configure my 3Shape Company Account for a multi-site setup?

The Company Account defines the shared environment for the patient data, licenses, user management, and connections.

  • If your sites are located within 2.000 meters of each other, you should use the same 3Shape Company Account on all Unite devices. This enables automatic synchronization and seamless sharing of data and licenses across locations.
  • If your sites are more than 2.000 meters apart, it is recommended not to use the same 3Shape Company Account across locations.

Where can I find subscription activation code?

Subscription activation code will be available on your TRIOS scanner box. Alternatively, you can receive it via email from 3Shape or your reseller.

Please note that this only applies to systems shipped with Unite 24.1 or newer, availability may vary depending on your region. All other systems will continue to ship with Unite 23.1 and a physical dongle
