How to perform automatic update of Dental System
12/01/2026With the implementation of Cloud License in Dental System 2024, a new update mechanism was introduced, ensuring that there is an easy option to upgrade to the latest version. The Dental System can now download the next version or patch release and prompt software installation with minimal user involvement.
“New version is available" notification
- When the new version of the software is downloaded, a pop-up informs the user that a new version is available.
- It is necessary to click “Install” to confirm and start the installation. Upon confirmation, the system prompts the user to close all 3Shape applications. The installer launches automatically.
When "Remind me later" is selected, the installation will be prompted on the next Dental System startup.

Upgrade via Notification Button in Dental Manager
When the notification about the upgrade is initially declined, the user can start the update through a notification icon, which appears in the top-right corner of Dental Manager. Clicking it displays the upgrade prompt again.
Note: the Notification Button might not be available in Dental System 25.1.0. It is necessary to use the automatic “New version is available" notification
Updating a Server-Client instance - Client notifications
When using Dental System in a server–client configuration, automatic updates can only be initiated from the Server. However, all client machines will still receive notifications, showing the status and progress of the server‑side update.
When the Install button is pressed on the server, each client displays a notification: “Server is updating”. The client is prompted to close all open 3Shape applications.
Once the server starts the actual update process, a second notification appears on every client: “Server is updating” (now with an exclamation mark inside a triangle). At this stage, it is important that all 3Shape applications are fully closed on each client machine.
When the server finishes updating, clients receive another notification: “Server is ready”. At this point, each client must start Dental System to finalize the autoupdate on their local machine.
