How to optimize the PC for best Dental System performance
06/11/2023Optimizing PC setup for Dental System performance
Using the below tips and tricks and setup recommendations you can optimize the PC setup for best Dental System performance, and prevent certain issues or slowness of particular applications.
System/PC performance optimization suggestions:
- Make sure the PC meets the system requirements in terms of hardware components and network speed;
- Check if the necessary ports are open in Windows Firewall and antivirus (if any);
- Configure the antivirus so that it doesn't block/check any of the Dental System applications, folder and used file types;
- Make sure the latest Windows updates are installed;
- Download and install the latest Nvidia graphics card drivers;
- Make sure that the following additional components are up-to-date: Visual Studio C++ redistributable (2017 or later is required), SlimDX, .NET framework (4.6.1 or later is required).
Additional suggestions (if purchasing the PC not from 3Shape):
- Choose SSD over HDD to reduce system and software start-up time;
- Make sure you choose the latest CPU and GPU generations.
Software optimization suggestions:
-
Database location: Dental System supports both local and remote SQL database connections, however, the recommended setup is to have the database installed locally on the server for optimal performance.
-
Database size: Make sure your database is not being filled up with very old cases, as this may slow down Dental Manager performance. Enable an automatic cleanup of the database in Dental System Control Panel > System Settings > System Cleanup > Automatically delete orders. Tick both the ‘Enabled’ and 'Keep files but delete from database' check boxes to ensure you only delete the files from your database and the order files are kept on your storage disk.
-
Materials file size: The material file is read every time the Dental Manager is started up or when an Order Form is being opened. The more materials you have, the longer it will take. Therefore, it makes sense to get rid of all materials you don’t use - especially smile libraries and implant systems. The goal is to keep the amount of each of these libraries below 100.
-
Orders in 3Shape Communicate Inbox: 3Scom Inbox is checked every time the Dental Manager is started up, so if there are a lot of unaccepted orders in the Inbox - this can slow down the opening time. Make sure you accept the orders in Inbox as soon as it is possible depending on the lab's workflow.
- Use of multiple dongles: In some systems, it has been found that the use of multiple dongles lead to longer read times (put in sequence, especially when using three or more dongles) and thus, it might cause system slowdowns (stalling scan and design software). Therefore, we currently advise to work with only one dongle containing all licenses. The reseller should reach out to subscription@3shape.com to help consolidate licenses in one dongle.
