Positioning and axis of the model sets in Ortho Viewer

Positioning and axis of the model sets in Ortho Viewer

Using Ortho viewer for model set viewing

Ortho Viewer is a free standalone application that can be used to view model sets and is available for download on the 3Shape Partner Portal.

As far as it is a different application and is not integrated with other Ortho System software (Ortho Analyzer, Appliance Designer, ScanIt Manager), it may not show all the changes to the axis and positioning of the models that were made in Ortho System.

Opening different types in Ortho Viewer of files will result in the following behavior:

  1. 3SZ files. As far as 3sz file is essentially and archive that contains not only raw models, but all the settings and changes that were made to the model in Ortho System software - when it is opened in Ortho Viewer the following prompt appears: If "Yes" is selected - the model positioning will be shown as it was set in Ortho System. If "No" is selected - the model will appear in default positioning and will not take into account occlusion and planes that were defined in Ortho System.
  2. DCM files. DCM files are raw models, that do not contain any information about the positioning and plane changes that were made in Ortho System. This means that DCM files will always show up in the default, unchanged position, that sometimes may appear different from the one that was defined in Ortho System.
  3. STL files. Exported STL files from the Ortho System will appear with the same axis and positioning as it was set in the Ortho System. Although, STL files are also raw model files (like DCM) - they inherit the positioning based on the values of planes and axis set by the user of Ortho System.
