Wireless TRIOS scanner/TP-link is not recognized after updating to Windows 11 24H2

02/12/2024

In Windows 11 version 24H2 Microsoft has implemented a new measure to control which software has access to your precise location using GPS and Wi-Fi services. While providing extra security measure for your PC, it changes the connection of wireless devices - such as a TP-Link adapter for a wireless TRIOS scanner - until you allow to access your location with 3Shape Unite.

This results in 3Shape Unite software asking for permission for Wi-Fi discovery after updating to Windows 11 version 24H2, showing the prompt below:

If you press ‘No’, 3Shape Unite will not have access for Wi-Fi discovery using TP-Link adapter, thus breaking the connection to your TRIOS wireless scanner.

This can happen with any model of TRIOS wireless scanner and in any version of 3Shape Unite, as it's caused by changes in Windows settings.

Solution

To solve the problem with TRIOS wireless scanner connection after update to Windows 11 version 24H2, you need to:

Step 1: Go to Windows Settings;

Step 2: Go to “Privacy” (or “Privacy and Security”) section:

Step 3: Select “Location”  on the left hand side, and turn on the feature “Let desktop apps access your location”:

Contact 3Shape Support if you have any further questions.

For full information on correct usage consult the official Safety and Setup Guide and the most current Manual.
