How to share a scanned case with your patient

07/11/2023

3Shape software allows you to share scan results directly with your patients. (A detailed video is available on the 3Shape Community—login with your 3Shape account is required.) You can share scans in two ways:

  1. By sending to the Patient using the My3Shape App. This method requires that the case must also be sent to the lab. The Send to Patient feature works like adding the patient as a “CC” on an email.
  2. Exporting scans in STL or PLY format and send them by email. The patient can open the files using any compatible STL viewer or similar software.

How to use the "Send to Patient" feature

Optional Step 0: Include patient's email address when creating it in Unite.

Step 1: After scanning the patient and post-processing the case, you will be on the Send step. Here, you can see the 3D overview of the case shown in the center of the screen.

Step 2: Click on the Send to Patient button and fill in the patient's email (if it was not added at the time of creating the patient). Add PIN if needed (for extra security) > click Save > click Send.

Step 3: The patient will receive an email with a notification that scans are now available, with instructions on how to access them using the "My3Shape" app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

Step 4: After activating their account, the case (3D model) can be seen in the "My3Shape for Patients" app.

Important notes:

  1. The patient's email cannot be registered in 3Shape account yet.
  2. Setting the PIN is optional, as an additional secutiry measure
  3. The patient will only see scans that you sent to the lab in Unite. Think of it as CC'ing the patient in an email.
