Physical location of personal data

Users of 3Shape products and services often ask where their patients' data is stored, particularly regarding data protection and legal requirements. To clarify, explanations about 3Shape's data location rules are provided below.

Physical location of patient data

3Shape processes patients' personal data (patient cases) only when using one of the cloud-based services (3Shape Unite Cloud, 3Shape Communicate, 3Shape Cloud Storage, 3Shape LMS). In all other cases, patient data is stored locally in a location configured by the customers themselves (e.g., on the computer, on the clinic's internal server, etc.).

For cloud-based services, the physical location depends on the servers of the cloud provider that host the service. 3Shape utilizes cloud providers' servers in various regions. 3Shape follows the principle that customer patient data is stored in the region closest to the customer's location, please find the details regarding individual services below:

The physical location of other personal data

Other personal data, such as the information needed to register and use 3Shape services and products (e.g., 3Shape Account) or other customer identification and contact data, are stored in Europe. However, this data may also be processed in other locations where 3Shape has branches or where IT service providers handle the data.

Please note that any personal data processing by entities cooperating with 3Shape occurs only when legally required data transfer agreements are in place (e.g., data processing agreements, EU standard contractual clauses).
