How to set up Direct Connect in 3Shape Unite

09/11/2023

Direct Connect is a 3Shape feature that allows customers using other 3Shape lab software, such as Dental System or Ortho System, to send cases directly from Dental Desktop or 3Shape Unite to those programs when they are running on the same network.

The process works by placing the case in a shared network folder, from which it is automatically transferred to the lab software. Direct Connect also functions within restricted networks with limited internet access.

Before using Direct Connect, make sure:

How to setup Direct Connect in TRIOS software

  1. Open Dental Desktop / 3Shape Unite, go to More > Settings > Connections > Labs, and select Add to create a new connection. Choose Manual setup.
  2. In the Direct Connect section, enter the path to the shared Direct Connect folder. If the folder is on another PC, you must enter the correct username and password to access it. If these credentials are unknown, the connection cannot be configured. Contact IT to obtain the Windows credentials used for shared folders on their network.
  3. Depending on the network configuration, you may need to include the domain or workgroup in the username, for example:
    1. domain\username
    2. workgroup\username
  4. Click Test to verify the connection, or exit and save the settings.
  5. Configure Direct Connect in the 3Shape lab software (Dental System or Ortho System) on the second PC and send a test case to confirm everything is working.

If issues occur, first ensure all required preparation steps outlined earlier were completed. If everything appears correct but cases still cannot be sent, contact 3Shape Support.
