What is the Subscription ID and how is it related to the dongle?
12/04/2024Definition of Subscription ID
When ordering hardware or software products from 3Shape today, you will see 2 license-related numbers:
- Dongle serial number, commonly referred to as Dongle ID (or simply dongle number) – this number is displayed in 3Shape Unite and in various 3Shape tools and platforms.
- Subscription ID – this number indicates a set of products purchased by a customer in 3Shape’s ERP system. This is not a new concept despite may not sounding very familiar to you; all dongles and scanners always have a matching Subscription ID.
Subscription can include a set of software licenses, a scanner, and its Service agreement type, defined when placing an order. Subscription is then programmed on a dongle which is used in 3Shape Unite as a holder of licenses. Once the subscription is moved from the dongle into cloud, a physical dongle will be not needed, and dongle number will no longer be relevant, however still visible in 3Shape Unite and other platforms.
Where can I see Subscription ID of my customers?
There are several places where Subscription ID can be seen today, and some of them will change with us introducing 3Shape Unite 24.1:

What ID should I provide now when I communicate with 3Shape Support or Sales teams?
After global roll-out of 3Shape Unite 24.1, all new TRIOS systems and standalone 3Shape apps in 3Shape Unite (e.g., Implant Studio) will be sold without dongles, and will only have one number – Subscription ID. Therefore, we encourage you to start integrating the Subscription ID concept into your existing workflows and business processes as soon as possible, to make the transition into a dongle-free world smoother.
As for systems previously sold with the dongles, 3Shape Support and Sales teams will be able to locate a relevant subscription in our system both by Subscription ID and dongle number. Also, for your convenience, dongle number will still be reflected next to Subscription ID both in 3Shape Unite and 3Shape eCommerce portal even after dongle has moved into cloud.
How cloud subscriptions will be related to 3Shape Account?
All licenses included into subscriptions will be owned by the currently used 3Shape Account company after moving the dongle into cloud, or activating a cloud-native subscription. Any license from any subscription owned by the company will be available on any 3Shape Unite device, where a user has logged in as owner, administrator, or just a member of this company. This means that a user can work on their TRIOS Move in the clinic, and then work from home on their laptop using the same Company Account and will still have access to the same licenses.
If you log in to 3Shape Unite as a member of a different company, you may see a different set of subscriptions and licenses (or see none, if this company doesn't own any).
